Winsor Pilates was developed by Mari Winsor, who was a certified student of Pilates legend, Romana Kryzanowska, who took over as director of Joseph Pilates studio when he passed away. Mari is well known as a Pilates teacher, particularly from her work in television. The co-author of three books: The Pilates Powerhouse; The Pilates Pregnancy: Maintaining Strength, Flexibility and Your Figure; and The Pilates Workout Journal: An Exercise Diary and Conditioning Guide, Mari Winsor has developed one of the most recognizable systems of exercise in the West.
Winsor Pilates is primarily focused on weight loss and body sculpting. And it is ideal for these two goals. That said, it is not for everyone. As it is designed to sculpt the perfect body, it may be too intense for those using Pilates as a rehabilitative tool. But if you are looking to lose weight and look great…give Mari’s system a try.
Winsor Pilates is based on using your own body weight in helping you drop pounds and gain lean muscle mass. The most basic principle on which Pilates is founded is-concentration. It gives you the ability to have a sense of one pointedness of mind. The Mari Winsor Pilates DVDs really show this principle in action.
Another important concept in Winsor Pilates is precision or control. This ability to control your motion also goes very far in calming your mind so that you can concentrate on your physical movements. In addition, controlling your movement really works deep into your body’s core.
Another important principle in the Winsor Pilates circle is stabilization. This gives you a starting point from which you are prepared for some of more advanced work. Finally we come to perhaps the most important principle-that of alignment. It is proper alignment that not only keeps your body safe from harm when performing the exercises, it is also what make you lose weight quickly and evenly. By keeping your body in perfect alignment, your internal organs get a nice pleasant massage as you exercise. This in turn aids in digestion and helps the body flush away all that accumulated fat.
With an idea developed by Mari Winsor that she calls “dynamic sequencing”, it is possible lose a great deal of weight in a relatively short amount of time. The Winsor Pilates website says dynamic sequencing is a “combination of exercises done in a specific order and rhythm to produce maximum results.”
